The Australasian Cerebral Palsy Clinical Trials Network (AusCP-CTN, NHMRC Centre for Research Excellence) is a multi-national team of experts in paediatric neurology, neonatology, epidemiology, rehabilitation and knowledge translation – coming together with one vision – reduction of CP and improved outcomes in children. Since establishment of the network in 2017, the team has been working tirelessly towards our vision, through developing and implementing international clinical practise guidelines across clinical settings, upskilling the clinical work force for earlier detection and diagnosis of CP in infants, testing the efficacy of novel interventions for children with cerebral palsy and their families, and working with consumers and families to develop inclusive user-friendly apps for the community.
While it is clear our activities have been many and varied – 2021 has been extremely successful for all teams within the network. Through active collaboration and leveraging on the team’s expertise clinically and in multi-disciplinary fields of research, the AusCP-CTN has secured $9M+ new research funding, including those prestige awards from MRFF (School Readiness), NHMRC CP Synergy, and NHMRC Clinical Trials (Active Strides).
In 2021, the team has committed to extend our clinical trials across Australia and Europe, especially working with indigenous communities, and those who are based in hard to reach regions. Leading the successful LEAP-CP program and as the Australian-arm of the international BornToGetThere (EU H2020 program), the project team has successfully recruited >80 infants to date, and will continue to work with local community workers to upskill and ways to translate the international clinical practice guidelines for early detection and intervention of infants at risk of CP.
