Researcher biography

Associate Professor Anthony Smith is an Associate Investigator on the CRE and will provide Health Economics expertise across all themes and technical advise for telemedicine interventions.

Anthony Smith is the Deputy Director for the Centre for Online Health (COH) at the Univeristy of Queensland. A/Prof Smith is also a chief investigator on an NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Telehealth - leading two major themes associated with telehealth applications in small rural hospitals and Indigenous communities. A/Prof Smith has more than 14 years’ experience establishing, managing and evaluating a broad range of telehealth programs, principally in paediatrics. A/Prof Smith also manages the service functions of the COH, which align with service level agreements and telehealth expansion programs at two major hospitals in QLD. A/Prof Smith has published 100+ papers, >$18 million in grant funding. In 2010, his team won a major Government tender to generate a national report on telehealth implementation and technical requirements. This report guided the strategic decisions related to funding videoconference consultations through the Medical Benefits Schedule. He is the scientific committee chair for the International Conference on Successes and Failures in Telehealth.
